Another Project Nearly done!

My husband helped me quite a bit with this project. He found this old TV console on Craigslist, hauled it to my house, and gutted it for me. He even brought it inside the house for me! 
Don't think I was just watching him the whole time, though.. I was working on some 5-strand granny squares to line the inside. We have two pillows inside there right now, and a beautiful crocheted blanket we found at a local Goodwill. All I have to do is finish up the squares and then join them.. then VOILA.

My Crochet Mentor

I know I said I was self taught in the beautiful art of crochet, and I technically am. But I learned my very first slip knot and chain stitch from a very wonderful teacher, Mikey , from the Crochet Crowd. I always find myself cruising his channel to find a new project to work on (My current is How to Crochet an Afghan in 2 Days ) and I'm never disappointed.

These are two doilies I made by watching him and another wonderful crochet teacher, Crochet Geek. The right was from this video and the left was from this tutorial. I am absolutely in love. The beautiful designs you can make with a little bit of creativity, a hook, and some yarn (or thread in this case) blows my mind.

Sculpey Creations!

(Cat-Boy)

 The other night, I attended an art night with some fellow crafters, and someone was making this amazing zombie penguin out of molding clay. After staring at her work in progress, I ask if I could play around with some of her crafting clay - Thank Goodness she said yes. It opened a whole new world for me. I found a kit of 14 different colors for less than $10 at Wal-Mart and I've been creating ever since. 

 

(Krum) 

My first creation was the Zombie Bride and Groom, which I made at the Art Night with the help of the people there. I baked them the next day at 275 degrees for about an hour (15 minutes per every 1/4 inch). Next I made Krum, from one of my favorite television shows as a kid, 'Ahh! Real Monsters!'. The armpit hairs were the hardest to do on him, and even after baking they weren't as stiff as I wanted them (ew, right?).
 My newest creation has to be my favorite. I'm a cat-oholic, and I wanted to do something kitty like. Baked him with Krum for about an hour, but unfortunately his ear fell off, so I'm going to have to run to Hobby Lobby and get some glue.

I'm not going to add any directions for this, just because with molding clay it's more fun just to make your own designs.

 (Zombie Bride & Groom)

Crohet: Arcade Stitch Blanket - Beginning

The beginning of my newest throw, thanks to Helby's Hatch! Extremely easy pattern to follow, and it makes a very warm, cozy afghan especially if you use super bulky yarns. 

To give you a little background about moi, I'm a fairly new and self taught 'hooker' (haha!). I learned in early November, 2011, after seeing all of the BEAUTIFUL designs on Pinterest. After that, I was hooked.. Excuse the horrible pun. But, let's get back on point.

I used Lionbrands Hometown USA bulky yarn in colors Los Angeles Tan and Oklahoma City Green, along with a size N hook. This was actually my first try at using bulkier yarns, and I absolutely fell in love.

Make your chain the desired width of your blanket in multiples of 6, add 8 more chains
Row 1: sk 1 ch, 1 sc in next 2 ch; *ch 3, sk 3 ch, 1 sc in each of next 3 ch,* ch 3 sk 3 ch, 1 sc in each of last 2 ch, ch1, turn

The Start of My Journey

I've always been interested in flexing my creative muscle, and with this nifty new thing called the internet (Pinterest, mostly), I've had a lot of inspiration. So I thought maybe if I created this blog, I could help inspire other people!
I'm not the best anything - my work is as imperfect as I am. But I like to think I leave little pieces of my heart and soul into each thing I make, so even when it has a few flaws, it's perfect for me.

I will be posting up pictures of my work along with what I made them with, and tutorials how to duplicate them. I sincerely hope you all like my 'designs', and I look forward to seeing what our artistic community at large can create next.
